In today’s Mailbag: Brrr! Foxy Claudia! Wack and Roll Update! Lots More!!!
Quick Comments:
Instead of the well written and extremely cleverly plotted Desperate Housewives last night, I got an NFL football game, and the American Music Awards.
I am not pleased.
Shouldn’t the sports and awards shows make the people that like that sort of thing pay to see them? Or run on Sports and Awards show channels? I pay for my television shows, but they get pre-empted every time a ball or puck gets tossed around by a bunch of guys, or hot babes hand out what appear to be bowling trophies for swell entertainment achievements to whoever won the coin toss in their respective categories. I do not get a refund or an extra episode in return, and my cable bill remains the same. When can I just pay for the shows I want…and see them at my leisure?
And the TV people wonder why more and more people are losing interest in their content. Why is that surprising to them when their loyal viewers can never depend on it being on when it’s supposed to be? And the networks wonder why people are downloading the shows they love off the internet…
Here’s this week’s Mailbag…
Mailbag Comments…
Mark Vukovich: Again many thanks Bob for the blog…its fun to read all the comments too..!
Lisa McDonald: Me and Mrs. Jones was definitely a highlight of Saturday night at the Estonia. Grant Smith rocked. Everyone on the stage rocked! And it was a pleasure to share a table with such a great bunch of folks!
SEG SAYS: Yep. A fine night. Grant Smith and George Olliver were in top shape, and that band…woot!!!
Jim Chisholm: Your fans are crawling out of the woodwork Bob. The kind of flaming theatrical rock and roll that the Wackers played is definitely unforgettable. It sounds like WSG and I were rubbing shoulders.
SEG SAYS: My fans have never been in the woodwork, Chis. Crawl…yes…but never out of the woodwork.
Denise: Finally I get to read your column, hahahahahahahahhehehehehehe awwwwwwwwwww lol, you are too funny ..:) That was a belly laugh, and did it ever feel good. Thanks for that Bob
SEG SAYS: You’re welcome, Denise. Nothing better than a good laugh, and if I can cause you do to that…YAY me!!!
Raymond Hache: Am I to understand that you can download Wack and Roll?? Sounds like someone was listening to it?? Saw a Mott the Hoople reunion – will I see a
Wackers?
SEG SAYS: Not yet, but very soon, and you’ll be able to read the details here. In the meantime, you can listen to a lo-fi on-demand version of the album minus the bonus tracks, pictures, and liner notes, at www.radiothatdoesntsuck.com Just load the player in the upper left hand corner and click on A&R Online Volume 25, and 26 in the player menu. A Wacker reunion? We discussed it years ago, but there were always problems of one kind or another. I doubt we’ll ever be able to do one, but I hope we can all get together at some point. There is a 15 minute short film from 1971 that may see the light of day in the new year…
Rock Files Comments…
Frank Gutch Jr.: Could you work your way through this segment a little more quickly? I’m freezing my ass off just reading it.
Mark Vukovich: Who the hell thought this trip up…traveling through the Rockies up into the Great White North in JANUARY..! Mine Gott man..! You guys needed a weatherman in your crew. Well you must make it…although I’m sure there are trials and tribulations ahead. Vuke in Lodi……..
Jim Chisholm: I’m listening to Wackering Heights as I read this. You guys and gals were definitely on some crazy Travelin’ Time. Bob, it always frustrates me that the pics and graphics that you add to your blogs can not be viewed in larger formats…especially the “beaut†in the black lingerie LOL. Is there a way you can enhance the blog so we can get a better view of pics, posters and maps? Just a suggestion…Still, I’m always diggin’ this. Thanks. When I goose the page zoom up to 200% the pics look better.
=Ae=: Not to be goosing things, young man – this is clean, wholesome family entertainment here …
~ pillar of moral rectitude ~
Toni: Burrrrrr! Reminds me of the time friends and I were in a little Luv truck, going cross country. Got snowed in (don’t know how my spelling is on this) at Gay Johnson’s Truck Stop in Rawlings WY. Told God that I won’t take off like that again, I promise
just please let us be safe. $$$ was waiting for us at Alpine, WY. Without the truckers we wouldn’t have been eating… Didn’t even remember that till this read. Keep ‘em comin! Toni Reno, NV…Oh Bob, Forgot to say I am moving into my new home this week, wanna help???
SEG SAYS: It was the worst winter on record in the United States and Canada in 100 years. Of course, we didn’t know that when we set off on our trip. If you think it’s cold where we are now, wait until the next installment on Wednesday.
Weekend Roundup Comments…
Mark Vukovich: Bob..I am surprised that you are not walking with prosthetic’s what
with all that foot shooting…lmao. Tom Donahue, our DJ of choice in NorCal. Claudia Lennear my God, what a beaut, to coin a phrase. You played with Booker T..! Classic stuff…keep on keepin’ on my brother…you are a joy to read. Vuke in Lodi
Jaimie Vernon: You must have a real mental block over that band The Us…cause you also forget to mention that the single you did (without strings) came out on one of the Nugget boxed sets on Rhino years ago.
SEG SAYS: I have that collection thanks to someone on the Internet telling me about it years ago. I was shocked to hear it. I remember the recording and the gigs in Clear Lake and L.A, but my memories of the band and how it all came together are gone. Damn good recording for the day, though.
Keith (Keef) Fraser: Vanishing Point, loved it when it came out and saw on the tube a year ago and it still held up . . . so did the sound track. Your memory of the days gone by a amazing, Bob. I remember taking my son to his first rock concert when he was finally old enough to hold my hair back while I puked.
Facebook Comments…
Stella Hunt: I thought that was George, and Grant…knew them both from Club Bluenote days….
Dave Barker: I always liked EG Smith & the Power’s version of “Keep on Runnin”…even better than Spencer Davis…great horns…
Dave Saunders: Another good one Bob and it’s not just music. Writing is also a means of spreading the word as well which also takes talent. Your doing a fine job at both, keep it up !!!
Mark Vukovich: To all my young friends out there in Cyber-ville…CLICK ON THIS LINK and read Bob’s take on Rock and Roll…yesterday and today…Great read.

Carla Lockhart: Talk about telling it like it was. A great read Bob.
Michele Hartley: Wi-fi hell I tell ya…great read, and I hope A&R 38 is archived till atleast February. Hope, hope…Thanks Bob, always get a kick out of your column.
Peter Kashur: Ahh, quotes! I have two that seem somewhat apropos to this column.the first: I was sitting with bob at a restaurant next door to CityTV and somehow ‘integrity’ became the topic of conversation. bob said: “Your integrity is something you should protect…..and it doesn’t matter whose ass you have to kiss to do so!â€and a second that also seems fitting: My father offered a rough translation to a polish saying: in somewhat broken english he would say, “Too soon, oldt; too late schmartâ€
Melanie Pickrell: Bob I love your stories. One of these days I am going to write a tell all book. You know what I mean! I will have to leave it for Emily to publish after we
have all crossed over because I am not going to protect the guilty with fake names. The shenanigans of our thrilling youth will live on after us. You will be more famous than you ever dreamed of …lol
SEG SAYS: Now, now, Mel…I don’t want to be famous. I want to be happy, as happy as you are in this great picture from the Wacker days. You were always a big part of the circus, Sweetie, and you’ll always be famous to me.
Thanks to all of you who wrote and shared your stories with us. That’s why we’re here. See you all on Wednesday…
That’s enough for now. Email me at segarini@fyimusic.ca with your comments, complaints, and thoughts, and remember…don’t believe a word I say.

Cherie and I really really wanted to have a reunion in Eureka if possible at the Wackering Heights house. All of the band members had certain requirements and criteria that would make a reunion a mission impossible.Bob refused to fly. Bob wanted to have 2 weeks to spend in California. Rand didn’t want to do it unless there was a performance involved. Kootch didn’t think he could find the time or $ for the trip. Ernie was the only Wacker that thought that meeting in Eureka would be a good idea, of course he lives there. And Mike Stull well he is playing in the band that has Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin and James Morrison in it.I say wouldn’t it just be great to all be in the same room again? Come on guys before any more of you end up in that great band on the “other side”.
Feel the same way! Here comes Monday night football and there goes Who Wants to be a Millionaire! Flipped over to ESPN the sports network and no Millionaire showing there!!! LOTS of people don’t want to watch sports!!!
