Monday Morning Mailbag LogoThe Monday Morning Mailbag for October 12th, 2009

In today’s Mailbag: More comments on The Segarini Band, Thanksgiving, Kashur, and Marge Simpson. Marge Simpson?

Before we get to the Mail, a little shout out to the great folks involved in this year’s Indie Week. Great music, and a great time. Special thanks to Darryl Hurs, Mary Elizabeth Gilbert, Joe Chisholm, all the staff and hard working club people including Dale and Paul at the Velvet Underground, the good people at the Bovine, Reverb, and Horseshoe, and the Shanghai Cowgirl Oh my, the food is great and their open late on Friday and Saturday. YAY!

ThievesMy favourite music from the shows? There were a lot of fine bands and artists, but the standouts for Pie and I were David Borins, Tim Chaisson and Morning Fold, KG, The Cutaways, (who came all the way from Ireland), and my good buds, Isle of Thieves. Here’s to next year’s Indie Week.

Here’s this week’s Mailbag…

Kashur, Kudos, and…a movie?

Mark John Vukovich: Thanks Bob.

SEG SAYS: I don’t know what for, but, you’re welcome!

Michele Hartley: : ) so Shew’s in a band again!.. so cool to know..hope I get to hear something from it. : ) always the fan of you three muskateers! Dig that photo of you three in the mail bag today, but like the whole version with t’ boots best! yeah..that fella reminds me of a cattle catcher on the front of a one ton truck! lol. Really was a great word. lol. best wishes for all the gang, kitties too!

SEG SAYS: When Shew isn’t in a band, he’s in the bag…the man is a living Renaissance Dude.

Bob's BrainGarwood Wallace: Bob, I never miss a column. It’s always entertaining and let’s me peer half-way into your brain pan. Keep up the good work and my best to Pie and the wee ones.

SEG SAYS: Thanks, Woody. The same to you, Janice, and your album collection.

Michael Tomasek: As I’ve said before under my pseudonym, there is a feature film in that column or at least a Movie Of the Week. Did I mention I’ve just invested in a good used pro-sumer camera?

SEG SAYS: A Movie, eh? Whoever comes up with the best name for it gets a rare mp3 from me.

Pete Kashur: ….so much for ‘witness protection’!
….and these days its a dual purpose bread/brain pan and he keeps it in the cupboard under the pyrex…..plenty of room for another loaf….climb aboard……

SEG SAYS: The only thing offered here is the “Witless Protection” program…a home for wayward boys, and girls gone bad.

Michele Hartley: maybe strange isn’t quite the word for you Peter…maybe weird is! LOL! xoxox

SEG SAYS: The best word for Shew is “Curmudgeon”, just like it is for most of the boys here in the ‘Home’.

I asked if you wanted reminders about the column, and you responded…and talked among yourselves…

Don Williams: Three notices a week is too much for some people? De-friend them!

Bob sent you a wedgieKatherine Jean Hosszu: Considering all the other junk sent around on facebook – I don’t think of this as inconvenient or tiresome

Daniel Ouellette: I have no issues either.

Raymond Doyle: Me either Bob, no issues!

John Richard Van Veld: No… Keep sending, dude…!

Jeff Kahl: same here. no problems at all. keep em comin Iceman!

Craig M. Smith: I Don’t have a problem if it’s on Facebook. imean this is a place where you can share information and writings

Jim Chisholm: I can’t get your posts fast enough!

Michele Hartley: ?? keep sending!

Ray Bianca: Can’t think of a better read…..I’m in!!!

Michele Hartley: Hey Ray, I’m IN is a Glenn Reid cd, and a good one…ya know, another fella that came from Nova Scotia! www.glennreid.ca : ) I’ve turned a few people on to him in Tx that can’t live without his music now. : ) for Bob it’s “Gotta Have.. ” : ) and send an email to his addy above to get on the list. Mic…you’re secretary, lol.

SEG SAYS: Hey, thanks for all the support, folks! It really means a lot. Even though it means I’ve created more work for myself, I’m going to go ahead with a weekly newsletter too. To all of you that subscribed already, please do so again. The subscriptions were scattered all over the place and I couldn’t keep track of them all. The first thing you’ll receive is the actual Newsletter invitation, which the following is from. So…Here’s how to get on the List:

If you want it, and you’ve got the grapes, just send an email to segarini@fyimusic.ca and write Subscribe, Nipple, Donut, or Beer, in the Subject Header. There will be contests and giveaways at some point, so this is very important. DO NOT respond to this email address, just the one above. That’s: segarini@fyimusic.ca That’s the one. Subscribe there. DO IT! DO IT NOW!!!

marge-playboy Let’s talk about Marge…from my Facebook Page:

SEG SAYS: I find this a great moment in Pop Culture. A Simpson on the cover of Playboy, and not Jessica or Ashley. Hefner’s people have a sense of humour…or Hef is starting to drift. Either way, it’s a good thing. Here’s what you had to say…

Freddie Pompeii: Yo, Bob…She a sexy bitch, yo!!!!!

Kim Hawworth: Ha! I was just reading about Marge being on the cover and lo, there she is!

Glen Bringslid: Is there a photo spread too?

Roy Roberts: I bet you that rabbit isn’t real LOL

Chris Cook: what a foxy babe

marge-simpson-bedPete Mosley: DOH!!!!!

Stella Hunt: Well, I don’t know who looks less real, Madge or Hef??

Brent Coursey: Yeah, no $h!+, Hef has DEFINITELY had a “face lift” or two…

Mark John Vukovich: Bob you know Hef…he hit that shit..!

Toni Ambiel: Sure she did!

Carla Lockhart: Poor Hef, trying to keep up with his image – all he really wants to do is watch “Steve Allen” reruns and drink a little tea.

Cherie Blackwell: OMG! you realize what issue that is copping?

Playtoon Robert Mcgirr: Darine Stern…October 1971..the first issue with an African/American on the cover…poor Marge..now she has two adult babies to deal with…I think I’m going to buy this issue…y’know…just for collector item purposes…yeah…that’s it…

Trish Todd: thought Homer was Hef….hehehe

Peter Kashur: come on, dish it! Reid asked earlier….does the carpet match the drapes? where’s Stewie when you need him…….

Barry Roden: Maybe she virtually did.

SEG SAYS: We will all probably buy this issue…and maybe that’s the point of sticking Marge on the cover. Who’s next? Francine from American Dad, Lois from Family Guy? Either would be fine.  Luanne Platter from King of the Hill would be okay, or even Minh…but Peggy Hill, Selma, or Patty would be a mistake. A REALLY big mistake…

The Segarini Band and Thanksgiving…

gotta haveJaimie Vernon: Bob, Look what they’ve done to your song!

SEG SAYS: Bastards must pay! Any lawyers out there want to work Pro Bono?…and I’m not talkin’ about the Irish guy OR Sonny…

Frank Gutch Jr.: Oh, sure… leave us with a cliffhanger! You should be buried beneath all of those imports you wanted to loot! Oh well, at least there is something to look forward to. Too bad Shaw isn’t around to read this. He would get a belly laugh or two, no doubt. Now, get back to work and finish the Bomb thing!

Mark John Vukovich: Wolfgang for sure was way ahead of his time. ”Bomb” Records…like that shit is the Bomb..! I like it…carry on my man. Waiting for the next installment.

CND National Bird=Ae=: No official national bird indeed – quite right – but we do have yer baysik ohfishull provincial birds, eh? http://www.members.shaw.ca/kcic1/birds.html p.s. The Trews are doing an acoustic gig at the Regent Theatre in beautiful downtown Picton, Ontario (pop. 4500) on 10-11-2009.
~ nominates the black fly for National Insect ~

Pete Kashur: eagle schmeagle…. north of highway 7, the wingspan and prehensile opposable thumbs qualify the mosquito for consideration as Canada’s national bird…and that’s moose and ’sqweeerill’, Natasha…

Boris

Bob,
The Bob Segarini biography movie-of-the-week/Wonderfu World Of Disney Special/C.O.P.S. Episode should be called: “It Seemed Like A Good Idea At The Time”.

Mike Campbell October 16, 2009 at 2:08 am

Hey Bob,

Nice to see you mention Tim Chaisson. If it’s the same Tim, he played at my club – The Carleton – in Halifax this summer. Showed up with Gordie Johnson who I organized a show with over the phone on a Sunday night – for the immediate Thursday – and sold it out in 36 hours without aid of anything except our club email newsletter.

Gordie produced Tim’s album and brought him with him to play in his acoustic band for the show. Tim played guitar, fiddle and sang. Tim’s guitar player (who’s name escapes me right now) was also on stage. They were very cool and good. Oh, the night was also helped by John Angus MacDonald (of the Trews) who played most of the 3 1/2 hour show with them, hahaha…

If any of your readers are coming to Halifax, they should check out our kick-ass club!

Thanks to your example, I swear to God I’m going to start writing shit down…
