Don’t believe a word I say with Bob Segarini

Monday Morning Mailbag
See Star Trek, switch to Coke Zero if you drink Diet Coke presently, and grab a cup ‘o coffee and sit yerself down…you’ve got mail.
Toni
We have to wait a week to find out if you got your truck/gear back???
Michele
We have to wait a week to find out if you made it to the infamous Nobodys??? : ) betcha had to bail the truck out of impound for illegal parkin’..missed out on Nobody’s but made it to the Bitter End. the anticipation mounts!!!
Thanks Bob, as always, enjoyable reading.
SEG SAYS: “You just have to wait 2 more days at this point. Thanks, both of you, for being so concerned. Believe me, revisiting these events in my life and sharing them here is both cathartic, and surprising to me. Sometimes, the very process of writing fuels the memory, and events I hadn’t thought of in years spring to the surface. It is, indeed, a ‘long, strange, trip…”

Thanks for the support Rob!
SEG SAYS: “…and thank YOU for the extraordinary music!”

To tell you the truth, I have been revisiting some Wackers songs. I spent the last week working on “Body Go Round” from Wackering Heights. As I’m sure you know, it’s a hopelessy beautiful piece of sweet pop music. Don’t tell Bib but I altered the lyrics so I’m singing about being in Canada instead of the USA. It took some care and effort but it feels right. Oh yeah, I turned yet another innocent soul onto The Wackers music last night.
I’m listening to Neil Young with Nils Lofgren right now on the classic “Tonight’s The Night” CD. Also some girl singers including Sara Dell (Bib’s tip from DBAWIS), Ingrid Michaelson (Indie-pop singer Ingrid Michaelson performs [last night] from the Cape Cinema on Cape Cod, Mass) and Julia Nunes (check her out on You Tube). Oh yeah, way too much Jeff Beck.
SEG SAYS: “This email was actually sent from one reader to another on a list we all belong to at Yahoo Groups, but I’ve included it here to show you what musos my readers are. It’s very comforting to know that there are still so many to whom music is as important as it always was. Jim name-checks some fine performers above, and hey Chis, thanks for your kind words about ‘Body Go Round’…”

Hey Bob,
The Free Press will be at Tattoo June 10th. Todd and I are managing them as of last week. Nice timing on the story.
Todd Arkell
Bob, saw your kind words about The Free Press in FYI…..always the gentleman and it is much appreciated.
These guys are a hard working group with a crazy tight live show, it is mentions like that which help bring a band to the attention of industry
folks and really make a difference. Cam and I loved them so much, we know manage them.
Thanks
Todd

Bob, my name’s J.D. and we met at the Big Schmooze a few weeks ago and you just included a few of my band’s (The Free Press) tunes on your most recent column.
I just wanted to say thanks for passing on such generous praise to your readers and listeners. It’s the praise from sound guys and music vets like yourself that always mean the most to me. The guys who live in the front lines and see all the beauty and all the ugliness that is the music biz. Those are the ones I take away; good or bad. I think Hunter S. Thompson put it best.
“The music business is a cruel and shallow money trench, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs. There’s also a negative side.”
But every once in a while we meet folks like you who buoy the spirit and make us feel like there are people out there listening and enjoying. Thanks again, Bob. Hope our paths cross again soon. In the meantime, be well and stay cool.

SEG SAYS: “Cam, Todd, Jim…It’s good to see an artist find believers as credible and legitimate as Cam and Todd to further their careers using the old fashioned template of hard work, great live shows, and quality music. We will definitely see you on June 10th at the Tattoo Rock Parlour.”
Terry Novinger
Hi Bob, I read your May 8 post…sure brought back some fond memories…Freitas Music and Miracle Music… Sandy Senderov etc. Question: was Lee Michaels ever in the Family Tree? Thought that I read that somewhere.
SEG SAYS: “Terry is another friend from my home town of Stockton, California…and yes, Lee Michaels was in The Family Tree, but left before we started recording. Lee, from Merced, California became a friend when he was playing in a bar band that frequently played in Stockton. His name was Mike Olsen back then He joined us when he heard the nusic, and saw how much we played. He left because we wanted to be rock stars and make records, while he just wanted to play the bars and gig a lot. Ironically, it was Lee that became the rock star, while we continued to tour and play the circuit. A great guy, and the last I heard he had some restaurants in Southern California called ‘Shrimp Kitchens’. If anybody runs into him, please send him my best.”
Howard Priest
LMAO at this: “Making friends with the cockroach that lived in my and Randy’s room. After the initial shock of seeing a bug that big, we got used to him. He’d even open the door for you if you forgot your key.”
SEG SAYS: “I do not exaggerate when I mention this bug’s size. He was bloody HUGE. He did have friends and family in our suite, but we rarely saw them. As far as we could tell, they lived under the fridge and pretty much kept to themselves…”
Marlene Schular
Who da thought you could write like that Bob…took me back dancing till the wee hours in the underground clubs of New York. Catching a friends play opening on Broadway “Billy Bishop Goes to War” and some of the sexiest and most exciting times of my life…so far!
SEG SAYS: “Glad we stirred up some pleasant memories for you, Marlene. New York was, and is, an amazing place, especially when you’re young and wide-eyed. It is definitely a place with a personality that usually leads to love, fear, or both.”
Gary Lewis Smalley
Bob… your mind works in amazing ways… You are a National…. I mean Continental Treasure. You keep the rest of us on our toes!!! Lol
SEG SAYS: “Thanks, Gary. I’m surprised that it works at all…”
That’s enough for now. Email me at segarini@fyimusic.ca with your comments, complaints, and thoughts…and remember…don’t believe a word I say.
