Anne Murray Considers Gilliland To Be A Good Guy

by David on November 5, 2009

In her autobiography, My Story, Anne Murray admits to feeling somewhat guilty about what went down between her and Bill Gilliland when she left his Canadian independent Arc Records for an “international powerhouse” Capitol Records, in 1969.

Anne writes, “The whole affair bothers me now more than it did then. It feels like a form of betrayal, which in some ways it was. Legally, he may have had a claim on me, or at a minimum, negotiated a share of future royalties with Capitol. That he chose not to make an issue of it speaks well of him.”

“Anne and I have different recollections of 1969, but she has no reason to feel the least bit guilty,” Gilliland says today, adding that “If you remember the sixties, you weren’t there.”
