Corus Entertainment caught the competition asleep at the wheel this week. The cross-platform media company has announced a deal that puts its inventory of over 50 radio stations front and centre of MySpace Canada’s audience.

Late yesterday, MySpace Canada and Corus Ent. jointly announced a partnership with with StreamTheWorld to deliver a live streaming service that allows users to listen to radio online at MySpace Radio.

Through the unique partnership, Corus Ent. will provide MySpace users real-time access to over 50 radios stations across the country. Canadian based StreamTheWorld will provide the technology backbone for MySpace Radio including an intuitive flash player that incorporates MySpace social networking features and allows users to integrate their favourite radio stations into their profiles.

“We welcome the ability to provide our radio station programming and personalities to the passionate music communities on MySpace,” said David Huszar, Vice President and General Manager, Corus Interactive and Integrated Solutions. “We are equally excited about the opportunities that this partnership will bring, beginning with the chance for great new music talent to be showcased on Alan Cross’ nationally syndicated radio program from ExploreMusic.com.”

Initially, MySpace Radio will stream content from Corus Entertainment. Additional radio content will be added in the coming months.

MySpace is known for our long term commitment and investment in independent, unsigned and breakthrough music talent and is the worldwide destination for new music and undiscovered artists. Through its partnership with Corus, MySpace Canada will collaborate with Explore Music, a nationally
syndicated radio program, to launch a monthly contest to provide up-and-coming artists, who sit outside the big label system, with the chance to be promoted
on-air.

The contest, “Found on MySpace,” will let millions of users recommend and vote for their favourite MySpace artist. The winner will to be showcased on Explore Music. The contest will launch in May 2009
