EMI Music Canada has announced a new long term partnership with Montreal’s Secret City Records, helmed by Justin West and Andrew Rose Montreal’s Secret City Records that includes Patrick Watson and Plants and Animals on its roster.
Founded in ‘06, the labels first two albums – Patrick Watson’s Close To Paradise and Miracle Fortress’s Five Roses – were nominated for Canada’s celebrated and prestigious Polaris Prize, which Watson won in ‘07. Watson was also nominated for a Juno Award last year in the Alternative Album category, and the song “Lucious Life” from Close To Paradise was featured in the ‘08 Bell Lightbox Toronto International Film Festival trailer.
In addition to Patrick Watson and Miracle Fortress, Secret City Records brings to EMI’s Associated Labels Division (ALD), the Montreal act Plants and Animals – nominated for the Polaris Prize in ‘08, and recently nominated for two Junos this year (Best New Group & Alternative Album) and Human Highway, the collaboration between Jim Guthrie and Nick Thorburn.

The first album under the new partnership will be the Patrick Watson sophomore release, due on April 28.
