Record Rama Sound Archives is still looking for a new home
After 41 years of collecting, storing, and cataloguing, the Mawhinney familyof Pittsburgh  is hopeful of relocating their Record Rama Sound Archives for a fraction of its appraised value. The Library of Congress, the National Archive and the National Library of Canada have reportedlydesignated the collection as the largest privately owned archive of its kind.
The collection, earlier put on auction on eBay with a minimum bid set at A$3M, consists of:
- 99% of all commercial and non-hit recordings issued from 1948 to the present totalling approximately 2.5 million vinyl 45 RPM’s and albums;
- * the Musicmaster Database (the largest computerized database in the field of popular music);
- a large collection of 78 RPMs which includes 78 RPM vogue picture discs, Edison discs and various sizes of 78′s;
- a large selection of various cassette and 8-track tapes covering all genres of music; and
- various industry antiques and memorabilia that includes a Edison Home Phonograph (cylinder machine),
- an RCA Magnetic Wire Recorder, a Zenith 78RPM Phonograph with record, the world’s first flat Earl Berliner gramophone record autographed by Chief Trumpeter Emil Cassi, a sealed Recoton sapphire playback transcription needle, and more.
