U2 have announced a limited-edition remix album, featuring three new tracks 
and 10 previously available remixes that span 13 years of recording, set down on a limited edition triple-LP vinyl edition and single CD, entitled Artificial Horizon.
Hardly the U2 release that fans were expecting. In the days before No Line on the Horizon came out last spring, Bono described a “companion record” due late 2009 and it was even given a name: Songs of Ascent.
The album never became a reality and now the band is assuring all that they are working on new material, with an album ETA of June. This on top of the incompleted material from Bono and The Edge to be incorporated into the much ballyhooed ‘Spider-Man Turn Off The Dark’ Broadway musical that is announced to open sometime late this year.
So, between time we get Artificial Horizon which only includes four remixes of songs from from the No Line on the Horizon album. The rest stretch from a Grand Jury mix of If God Will Send His Angels, released in 1997, to Trent Reznor’s take on Vertigo and remixes by David Holmes, Hot Chip, Justice and a earlier B-side of John Lennon’s Happiness is a Warm Gun.
With a running-time of just over 62 minutes, Artificial Horizon comes on a single CD or as a limited-edition three-LP vinyl set. According to U2’s website, vinyl versions will only be manufactured after orders close on May 14, making the album a “collectors must-have”. U2’s previous remix album, 1995’s Melon: Remixes for Propaganda, was a fan club exclusive and can be found on eBay for a pretty penny or two.
